Work begins on what claims to be Lincoln’s largest development in decades

The groundworks for what claims to be the city’s largest development project in decades have begun. Lindum Homes has broken ground and officially begun the first 52 energy-efficient homes at Charterholme.

This new neighbourhood is set to transform the western side of Lincoln and has been in the making for more than 100 years. Previously known as the Western Growth Corridor, the ambitious project will create 3,200 new homes as it unfolds over the next 25 years.

It will also deliver shops, a business park, a leisure village, community services, and enhanced transport infrastructure. The project, which is a partnership between the City of Lincoln Council and local construction company Lindum Group, hopes to create a vibrant community that combines sustainable living with a highly desirable location.

With the first phase now underway, the 52 properties being created will feature innovative energy-efficient technologies to help meet the needs of modern families whilst minimising the environmental impact. The name Charterholme was also chosen to reflect the city’s rich history, and the development hopes to preserve the city’s unique character whilst also balancing sustainable growth.

City of Lincoln Councillor Joshua Wells, portfolio holder for inclusive economic growth, has described Charterholme as being “a truly transformative project that will support the sustainable growth of our city for generations to come.” He continued: “This development is not only about providing much-needed housing but also about creating a vibrant, sustainable, and well-connected community.

“We are proud to see this vision take its first tangible steps with the construction of these 52 energy-efficient homes, and we look forward to seeing the wider benefits Charterholme will bring to Lincoln.”

Rebecca Hurst-Miller, director of Lindum Homes, says this first phase of houses will play a key role in establishing the vision and character for the entire development. She stated: “One at Charterholme will combine thoughtful planning and sustainable principles to create a neighbourhood that benefits both its residents and the wider community.”

“We’re delighted to begin work on the first homes at One at Charterholme. These properties will showcase modern, energy-efficient design, providing residents with high-quality, comfortable living spaces.”

She added: “Work to build a showhome on site is underway and this set to open in summer 2025. In the meantime, our Sales Team will be available on site from February 2025 so please do pop in for more information.”
