Wollaton Hall: Man’s body recovered from lake after police called to closed park

A man’s body has been recovered from a lake after police were called to an incident at a popular Nottingham attraction that resulted in it being evacuated. Officers were pictured arriving at the lake in Wollaton Park earlier this afternoon (Friday, January 3) after the discovery was reported by a member of the public.

Officers, who were called at 12.59pm, confirmed the man’s family has been informed and an investigation into what happened is ongoing. Detective Inspector Lisa Jones, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This is a tragic discovery and our thoughts this afternoon are with this man’s family and friends.

“Whilst our investigation into what happened remains at an early stage, we don’t currently believe his death to be suspicious.

“As we work to understand how this man came to be in the water, I would like to appeal to any additional witnesses to come forward.”

Visitors to the Elizabethan manor and deer park were evacuated from the grounds of the park as the incident unfolded. Officers suggested it could be closed for several hours before they left the scene at around 2.30pm. Anyone with additional information about this incident is asked to call 101 quoting incident 265 of 3 January 2025.
