When your bin will be emptied after Stoke-on-Trent collections hit by cold snap

A week of snow and ice causing treacherous road conditions has hampered some bin collections in Stoke-on-Trent. Now the city council has confirmed how it plans to catch up on missed collections – which has left some residents with bins that have not been emptied for around a month.

The local authority said “despite the very best efforts of our waste team” some collections could not go ahead as planned due to the “exceptionally icy weather”. Those who missed out on a collection should leave their bins out from tomorrow (Monday, January 13) for teams to empty.

To aid the catch-up, brown bin collections are being suspended next week. The city council said: “Despite the very best efforts of our waste team throughout this week, the exceptionally icy weather has prevented us collecting some residential wheelie bins.

“We will be collecting any missed blue and grey bins next week, so if your bin hasn’t been emptied please leave it out from Monday (13 January) and our teams will return to collect it. In order to do this, we will be suspending brown bin collections next week.

“As a one off, residents who subscribe to the garden waste service should present their bin with their grey bin on their normal collection day the following week (commencing 20 January). Our crews will be catching up with collections through the week and hope to be back on schedule within the next few days.”
