“Britain’s poshest train” always draws a crowd, and it is set to do so again in 2025 as it stops in the North East on five separate dates across the year.
The Northern Belle, once part of the Orient Express Group was described as “The Grand Duchess of Luxury Train Travel” on Bill Nighy’s “World’s Most Scenic Railways” TV programme. It was a favourite of the late Queen Mother who died aged 101 in 2002 and reputedly had a favourite seat.
However, a spokesperson for the train told ChronicleLive previously that they do not publicise the location of the seat – but sometimes the onboard staff will whisper the secret into the passenger’s ear who is sitting there!
When the Northern Belle stopped in the North East in 2024, passengers were invited to board the 1930’s Pullman style train via a red carpet at stations in Darlington, Durham and Newcastle. It’s so fancy, guests are banned from wearing jeans and trainers!

The Northern Belle will stop at those three stations once again in 2025 across five visits to the North East. Here’s when it will stop in the region:
