Residents near a blaze in West Bromwich have been urged to keep their windows closed tonight. Dozens of firefighters rushed to the inferno which broke out at a scrap yard in Phoenix Street at around 5pm today, January 3.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported. Phoenix Street and surrounding roads were shut by West Midlands Fire Service during the incident.
Group Commander Kevin Eaves told BirminghamLive that the service was making “good progress” with extinguishing blaze and that the fire was “pretty much” out. He said: “We’ve got approximately eight crews with command officers in attendance.

“It started in a scrap yard at about 5pm. We’re making good progress with extinguishing the fire.
“Road closures are in place in the immediate facility. We would ask people to avoid the area and keep their windows closed. No injuries have been reported to us.”
A spokesperson for the fire service wrote on social media platform X: “We currently have eight crews in attendance at Phoenix Street in West Bromwich. Please travel with caution around the area.”
It later added: “Good progress is being made with extinguishing the fire. Please keep doors and windows closed if you live nearby.
“Road closures are in place within the immediate area. Crews will be on scene throughout the evening.”
