Wayne Rooney has today left Plymouth Argyle by mutual consent after a disastrous run of results which has left the club at the bottom of the Championship.
First team coach Kevin Nancekivell and club captain Joe Edwards will take charge of the team for the New Year’s Day game against Bristol City. Daryl Flahavan will continue as goalkeeping coach but assistant head coach Mike Phelan and first team coach Simon Ireland are also departing the club.
A lengthy Argyle board meeting is understood to have been held on Monday evening, which ended up with the decision being taken to change head coach for the second time in 2024, after the dismissal of Ian Foster towards the end of last season.
