Wayne Rooney has taken to Instagram to clarify the circumstances around a video that went viral, showing him seemingly allowing a woman into his apartment. The Plymouth Argyle manager, who is currently living in Devon away from his wife Coleen and their children, addressed the footage which reportedly shows him opening his flat door while accompanied by a woman.
The video in question has amassed over 2 million views and features Rooney inside his spacious loft apartment with the TV on. Since taking over Argyle in May, Rooney has been living separately in a large Plymouth apartment, while his family remains in their six-bedroom £20million mansion in Cheshire.
As reported by the Mirror, he on Instagram: “I am aware of a video circulating online. The video shows a man and woman looking around my apartment. The couple kindly gave me a lift home and were in there at the same time as my son who was visiting.
“Footage is from last summer. It is annoying that at least one online newspaper has chosen to edit the footage to make it appear as though a woman entered the apartment on her own. That is simply not true.”
His tenure in Devon has been challenging so far, with only five victories out of 25 matches to date. Plymouth find themselves languishing at the bottom of the Championship, and following their 2-0 defeat to Oxford on Sunday, there have been loud calls for Rooney’s dismissal.
Addressing his future, Rooney said: “I think you have to look at every possible outcome. I think that’s normal with the results we are going through.”
“You have to feel you can turn it around, have you got the players to turn it around. Can I turn it around? Can the coaches turn it around? That’s all stuff we really have to look at.”
Rooney has four children with Coleen, who he married in June 2008, called Kai, Klay, Kit and Cass. While Rooney was managing his struggling side at Oxford on Sunday, Coleen was at Goodison Park watching Everton lose 2-0 to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
Coleen recently returned from Australia, where she was a competitor in I’m A Celebrity, where she finished second behind Danny Jones of McFly.
