Wayne Rooney gets new job after Argyle sack as new head coach is confirmed

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney is preparing for a return to the coaching scene next month, albeit not with a professional team.

It’s only been less than two weeks since Rooney parted ways with Argyle, after managing just five wins in 25 matches.

The disappointing results left the Devon side languishing at the bottom of England’s second tier, leading to the termination of the former England skipper’s most recent stint as manager. He’s since been replaced by ex-Cercle Brugge boss Miron Muslic who has signed a three-and-a-half year deal.

Despite widespread speculation that the 39-year-old might next appear as a pundit, Rooney is set to re-enter the world of coaching as a newly appointed ambassador for Football Escapes, where he will oversee a children’s training camp.

Self-described as ‘The premier blend of holiday delights and footballing highs’, Rooney is scheduled to be in Dubai at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel from February 17th to the 21st for his upcoming role, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

Parents and their children are being enticed with the promise: “This is your chance to give your kids the opportunity to train with one of football’s greatest icons,” reports the Mirror. As per the Football Escapes website, the starting prices for this combined holiday and training experience for a family of four range from £4650 to £8650.

While the celebrated Red Devils figure undoubtedly aims for a quick comeback to football management, there’s talk of a potential return to his old club in a different role.

Teddy Sheringham, a three-time Premier League champion, is of the opinion that Rooney could make a significant difference as a striking coach at Old Trafford, particularly for the underperforming Rasmus Hojlund.

With only seven goals to his name in 23 games this season, the former England star believes that with Rooney’s mentorship, the Danish player could enhance his goal-scoring prowess. “Would Wayne Rooney be a good striking coach? Without a doubt,” said the ex-United and Spurs striker, speaking to BoyleSports.

“I think it is a very important role nowadays. There are set-piece coaches, back four coaches, striker coaches and Wayne’s been one of the top players in the country.

“Could he help Rasmus Hojlund? Of course. He’s an experienced player that’s played for his country a hundred times and scored goals at the top level. So any advice from him you would have to listen to.”
