The principal of Waltham Toll Bar Academy has announced he is leaving his role next month.
Nigel Whittle was appointed to the principal role less than three years ago. He will be replaced by Phillip Dickinson, who currently heads Louth Academy, which is also part of Toll Bar’s Lincolnshire Gateway Trust.
Mr Whittle had previously been in charge at Havelock Academy and also worked in Preston and his hometown of Blackpool.
In a letter to parents and students, Mr Whittle said: “I wanted to extend my personal, sincerest and heartfelt thanks to you for your support over the last few years. It has been a tremendous honour and privilege to lead at Waltham Toll Bar – a school with such a distinguished history and strong reputation.
“Indeed, having led two schools in Grimsby, I will always have very fond memories of my time here. I am hugely proud of our school, colleagues, students and community. I have been dedicated to providing our students with the very best education and I have been so proud of how they have grasped so many opportunities offered to them.”
Waltham Toll Bar Academy has more than 60 teaching staff and around 2,000 students, including its Sixth Form.
Mr Whittle added: “They are incredible young people who I will miss working with. It has been an absolute privilege to work with so many exceptional colleagues and I know with such a great team of staff our school will continue to go from strength to strength. The Trust has planned for Mr Phillip Dickinson to take over as Principal after February half term.
“Mr Dickinson already works for the Trust as Executive Principal and is a highly experienced school leader. He comes with a proven track record of success having been the Principal at Louth Academy, which in the summer was the best performing school in East Lindsey.
“Mr Dickinson will be working with me in the coming weeks to ensure a smooth transition. I wish everyone the very best for the future. “
