A quadruple amputee got his hook caught in a police officer ‘s wedding ring during a brawl after he struck a bus passenger with his prosthetic arm.
Thomas Proudfoot hit the Good Samaritan at Perth Bus Station before assaulting the two police officers who turned up to arrest him.
He managed to bite one officer on the body and tried to bite another as well as spitting at them after knocking passenger Wayne Mysiuk to the ground.
Fiscal depute Stephanie Paterson told Perth Sheriff Court: “The accused was on the bus and appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.
“The driver had cause to contact the police. Mr Mysiuk was awaiting a bus and approached the accused to defuse the situation. The accused spat at him, striking his face and shoulder.
“The accused turned away and sat back down on the bus before exiting again. The accused was told to move away from the bus by Mr Mysiuk.
“The accused apologised and extended a prosthetic hook to shake. Mr Mysiuk accepted the apology but refused to shake the hook.

“The accused, without warning, struck Mr Mysiuk with the hook, knocking him to the ground. Police took hold of the accused and informed him he was under arrest.
“The accused spat at PC Matthew Thomson. The police placed the accused on the ground and the accused’s hook got caught in PC Thomson’s wedding ring, causing the skin to break.
“The accused thereafter tried to bite PC Thomson to the hand, but he was able to remove his hand before any pressure was placed on it. Further assistance was requested by police.
“The accused was taken control of by police officers. However, the accused managed to bite PC Cameron Sutherland to the left calf, but did not cause injury.”

Proudfoot, 28, from Methven, Perthshire, admitted assaulting and injuring Mr Mysiuk with his hook at Perth Bus Station on 9 December last year.
He also admitted two charges of police assault and he was placed on a two year community payback order and under supervision by Sheriff Clair McLachlan.
Proudfoot’s solicitor said: “He very much regrets what he did and appreciates the seriousness of his actions. He has taken the time and trouble to write a letter to Mr Mysiuk.”
Proudfoot was jailed for six months last year after he admitted attacking one police officer with his hook and trying to bite two others.
Proudfoot, who lost both arms and both legs in a horror train crash in 2012, admitted assaulting PC Mark Hogg in the station on 2 May 2023.
He admitted swinging his prosthetic arm, containing a metal hook, at the officer’s head when he was already the subject of a court bail order.
Proudfoot, formerly of Glasgow, admitted attacking PC Christopher Brash by spitting on his body and trying to bite him during the same incident.
He admitted assaulting PC Gary Cameron by trying to spit on him and bite him. Finally, he admitted acting in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and uttering threats to bite and spit at officers.

Previously, Proudfoot was given a seven year sentence for a vile sex attack in 2014 and is still considered to pose a danger to the public.
Despite his lack of arms and legs, Proudfoot carried out a vicious sex assault, kicking his victim on the head and body and leaving her so badly injured she was barely recognisable to friends and family.
As well as being jailed, Proudfoot was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life because of the sickening brutality of the attack.
Proudfoot was jailed for attacking his 17-year-old victim on waste ground near his former home in Clydebank – after committing a catalogue of violent offences in the preceding months.

When he was 15, Proudfoot was hit by a train near Westerton Station in Bearsden, near Glasgow, and medics at first feared he would not survive.
He was so badly hurt after being hit by the train he had to have all four limbs removed and now has four prosthetic limbs, including a false arm with a metal claw.
Just months before the sex attack, Proudfoot used his metal arm to break another man’s jaw and he used it to attack a police officer. He spat on another officer’s face.
