A council property remains on the market after more than two years, despite its price being slashed by a quarter. The Victorian building on the Avenue in Lincoln was originally put up for sale as Lincolnshire County Council aimed to downsize.
It was placed on the market in late 2022 for £425,000, along with both of the properties on either side. The 3,200 square foot building was a Victorian house which was later converted into council offices.
Lambert, Smith & Hampton are currently listing the building for £325,000. The online brochure states it could be suitable for a variety of uses such as student accommodation, a hotel, a care home or a doctor’s surgery.
It describes the building, which dates back to the 1890s, as being “prominently situated adjacent to a popular city centre thoroughfare”. The two neighbouring semi-detached properties on The Avenue, which were roughly double the size, have since sold.

The largest building on the junction with West Parade was originally marketed at £600,000, while its neighbour to the south was valued at £575,000. The decision was taken in 2022 to downsize the council’s properties by around 40 percent as they no longer needed as much working space.
Councillor Richard Butroid (Con), the executive member for property, said at the time: “There is definitely a drive to consolidate to make sure we’re getting the best use out of our buildings and not costing the council any more money than it needs to.”
