Unique job available at historic cave on Cambridgeshire border

A unique opportunity has arisen for “one of the coolest jobs in town” on the Cambridgeshire border. Royston Cave, which has been welcoming visitors since its discovery in 1742, is looking for part-time tour guides.

A statement from Royston Cave reads: “New year, new job? We are looking for cave guides for 2025, so if you love history, meeting people and want one of the coolest jobs in town, then why not apply?”

Shifts are on a rota system (Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays) from April 5 until December 31 and are £47.25 per guiding session, which are approximately three-and-a-half hours. Public group tours are up to 15 people at a time. The successful applicant may also be asked to run private tours on an ad-hoc basis.

The job vacancy read: “An exciting opportunity has arisen to become a tour guide at the historic Royston Cave. The role includes delivering tours of the cave to visitors and presenting information about its history and conservation projects in an engaging manner.

“You’ll be required to run daily cave operations, manage tickets, answer questions and oversee the security of the site. Lone working is also required. This is a visitor facing role so it’s vital that you are confident, have brilliant communication skills and are comfortable with people.

“You’ll be responsible for providing a high level of customer service too, ensuring all visitors have a great experience. You will work on a rota system, choosing the shifts that suit you. Prior knowledge of Royston Cave is not essential but an interest in history is helpful. Full training will be provided.”

The closing date to apply is February 5. To find out more, including the job description and an application form, click here.
