Two taken to hospital after crash between car and HGV on A695

Two people have been taken to hospital and a temporary road closure is in place after a crash between a car and a HGV on the A695.

Emergency services were called to the junction of the A695 and B6317 between Crawcrook and Prudhoe shortly before 10.30am this morning. A video shows the road blocked by two heavy goods vehicles and a police car, with traffic backing up along the road.

Northumbria Police confirmed that the crash involved a car and a HGV. The force has closed the road temporarily and a local diversion is in place through Crawcrook, with reports that traffic is not largely affected at the moment.

The North East Ambulance Service confirmed that two people had been taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. It is understood that nobody has suffered serious injuries.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “At around 10.25am today (Thursday), we received a report of a collision involving two vehicles on the A695 in Crawcrook, near to the B6317 junction. Emergency services attended the scene where it was reported that a trailer from a heavy goods vehicle had collided with a car.

“Nobody is believed to have sustained serious injuries. A temporary road closure remains in place to allow for the vehicles involved to be uplifted, and the road to be cleared. Enquiries are ongoing.”

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called to a road traffic incident today (2 January) at 10:34am on the A695 near Crawcrook in Ryton. We dispatched one ambulance crew and one rapid response paramedic and two patients were taken to RVI hospital.”
