Two people were killed on the roads on New Year’s Eve, including a woman who died after being knocked down in a ‘hit and run’ in Paisley.
The 70-year-old was struck by a white car on Barrhead Road, near the junction with Ladykirk Crescent, at around 7pm on Hogmanay.
The car failed to stop and the pensioner was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. Police are now searching for the car and its occupants.
It comes as police are still appealing for information about another ‘hit and run’ in Glasgow on Christmas Day, which left a 53-year-old woman in hospital after she was struck by a car – possibly a dark grey Ford S-Max – which failed to stop.

In relation to the Paisley fatality, Detective Inspector David Tomlinson said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died and everyone affected by this tragic incident.
“I would urge anyone who may have witnessed anything or believes they saw, or may have dashcam footage, of a white coloured car on the road prior to the collision to get in touch.
The A83 at Whitehouse, near Tarbert
“We would also be keen to speak to anyone who thinks they have seen a car matching this description after the collision which may have had damage. Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting reference 2566 of 31 December.”
Meanwhile, the A83 remains closed at Whitehouse near Tarbert in Kintyre after a 53-year-old man was killed in a single car crash at around 7.30pm on December 31. A diversion is in place but motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.
‘Stopped to retrieve a wing mirror’
The renewed appeal for information about the Glasgow ‘hit and run’ comes after the female pedestrian was struck on Croftfoot Road at around 11pm on December 25.
The two occupants of the car, described as Asian males with Scottish accents, left the scene before the emergency services arrived. They retrieved a wing mirror which came off in the crash.
Sergeant Jack Swindells said: “Extensive enquiries remain ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who may have seen the car around this time to contact us. We also ask anyone driving in the area at the time with dash-cam footage to come forward.”
