Police have been called in after nuisance bikers were spotted ‘weaving through traffic’ on a city road – without any helmets on. The incident in Sneyd Green represents further issues with off-road bikers in the Potteries.
Officers had been called out to Berwick Road at around 10.40pm on December 28 to reports of ‘two off-road motorbikes being ridden dangerously’. Meanwhile ward councillor Laura Carter says she has received ‘a lot’ of messages over off-road bikes plaguing Sneyd Green.
Now the community leader has urged residents to report such sightings to the police.
She said: “I’ve received a lot of communications about the off-road bikes and I’ll be making my way through responses over the next couple of days. We need to report. I can’t state this fact enough that if we’re not constantly reporting the police are not going to treat us as a hotspot area.”
Such has been the problems with off-road bikes in the Potteries that Staffordshire Police have previously teamed up with Stoke-on-Trent City Council to launch Operation Transom. Last month and that crackdown saw patrols carried out around Park Hall Country Park and Berryhill Field where a drone was sent up.
Meanwhile residents in Bentilee also claim to be plagued by the illegal bikers. StokeonTrentLive reported in November how yobs sprayed mud at parked cars on Dividy Road and Tenbury Green.
Officers were also told how the windows and windscreen of a car had been smashed and bricks were thrown onto Dividy Road. Following that episode the force went on to seize a motorbike.
Back in Sneyd Green and an investigation is ongoing.
A spokeswoman said: “We were told that two motorcyclists were weaving through traffic on Berwick Road. The riders were not wearing helmets. Officers went to the scene and checked the area.”
Witnesses should call 101 and quote incident 651 of December 28.
