Trump vows to tell all on mystery drones targetting United States days after taking office

The incoming president has claimed that the drones have also been spotted above his own Bedminster golf course in the state of New Jersey, and that the truth will be revealed “one day into his administration”

Donald Trump has vowed to unveil the truth behind the New Jersey drone mystery, stating that the “government knows what is happening”. The president-elect mentioned that these drones, which have been sighted in large numbers across the East Coast, have also been spotted over his own Bedminster golf course in the state.

During a televised news briefing from his Mar A Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, he pledged to disclose the answers “one day into his administration” – which would be January 21. He criticised: “I think it’s ridiculous that [the Biden administration] us not telling you about what’s going on with the drones,” adding that these unidentified aircraft are not just limited to New Jersey, but have also been seen in Virginia.

Trump has previously suggested that the federal government is responsible for the hundreds of drones observed over US military facilities and residential areas. “The government knows what is happening,” the incoming president asserted.

“Our military knows where they took off from. If it’s a garage, they can go right into that garage. They know where it came from and where it went.”

He further claimed that the truth about the mystery is being intentionally kept from the public: “Our military knows and our president knows. And for some reason, they want to keep people in suspense.”, reports the Mirror.

The surge in drone sightings is believed to be due to the rising popularity of affordable quadcopter drones, often used by hobbyists. These are predominantly produced in China, but the US Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) is contemplating a new regulation to restrict the sale of Chinese drones in the United States over national security worries.

The US army has already prohibited the use of drones manufactured by China’s giant Dai-Jing Innovations company (DJI) by its soldiers, citing “increased awareness of cyber vulnerabilities.”

These budget-friendly drones regularly connect back to DJI computer systems in China for software updates and routine usage monitoring and maintenance. Fears have been voiced that the US military should not become dependent on Chinese-made drones – as active-duty units already do in Ukraine and Israel – because the technology could easily be remotely “switched off” from China.

This could effectively “blind” US units in combat. DJI’s economical cargo drones – capable of carrying payloads up to 60 pounds – have no real competition from any Western manufacturer.

When Pentagon documents labelled DJI as a Chinese military asset, the company legally retaliated, asserting that it “is neither owned nor controlled by the Chinese military.”
