Donald Trump’s “deranged” plan to take control of Greenland is eerily similar to “Germany in the 1940s”, an expert has claimed.
The president-elect’s ominous refusal to rule out “military and economic coercion” in his proposed takeover of the autonomous Danish territory has drawn criticism from many politicians around the world. “Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders,” said Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. When asked at a Mar-a-Lago press conference on Tuesday (January 7) about whether he would rule out “coercion”, the MAGA man responded: “No, I can’t assure you on either of those two, but I can say this: We need them for economic security.”
The Daily Star spoke to security expert Professor Anthony Glees, who dubbed Trump “deranged” and launched into a list of reasons why the Republican’s bizarre wish to own Greenland would “shake Europe to its foundation”.

“Even if I was having this conversation with you six months ago, I would be admitted to a lunatic asylum. They’d be saying ‘this professor has lost its marbles’. But this is what’s happening,” Glees told this publication.
He added: “This is completely mad – you couldn’t dream it up. This is shaking Europe to its foundation, Trump is trying to destroy something that’s taken generations to build.
“Trump wants to destabilise Danish politics and find people who will cow down to him. This drives a horse and coach through the credibility of NATO.”

The expert then drew some eerie similarities between the situation at the moment and “Germany in the 1940s”.
“Denmark will face a Dunkirk situation. Trump will offer money and Danish politicians might take the money. The Danes won’t want to fight, the idea of fighting America is absolutely absurd,” said Glees.
“In the end, there’ll be nothing Denmark can do about it. The Dunkirk aspect is they’ll have to accept defeat and use the time they have to build up the strength of their NATO forces.
“I would not like to be in Copenhagen this morning (January 8), the Danes have had this before in 1940 when the Germans marched in. I think there are many people who will see Trump as behaving like the Germans behaved in the 1940s.”
