Tragedy as man’s body pulled from sea as police swarm Cleveleys beach

The body of a man has been pulled from the sea in Cleveleys as emergency services swarmed the area.

Tragedy struck after police received reports of a body being found in the water near to the Promenade at around 10.50pm last night (December 29). Paramedics and HM Coastguard also responded, and a cordon was put in place.

Bystanders reported seeing a heavy emergency services presence in the area with ‘lots of police, ambulances and search and rescue teams’. Sadly, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene

Lancashire Constabulary said the death is currently being treated as ‘unexplained’. Enquiries are continuing.

In a statement a force spokesperson told LancsLive: “We were called by the Coastguard at around 10.50pm on Sunday 29th December, to the Promenade, Cleveleys, to a report a man had been found in the sea. The emergency services attended and despite the best efforts of medical personnel, very sadly the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this sad and distressing time. The death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are continuing.”
