A man has tragically died after taking unwell onboard a bus in Edinburgh’s city centre.
Around 5.30pm on Saturday, January 11, police raced to the scene at Greenside Place after reports of the medical matter.
Emergency services attended and the 70-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.30pm on Saturday, 11 January, 2025, officers received a report of a 70-year-old man having taken unwell on a bus in Greenside Place, Edinburgh.
“Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The death is being treated as unexplained, however there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”

At the time, Edinburgh Trams warned commuters travelling to the airport from Picardy Place to expect disruption.
Lothian Buses also issued a warning to travellers to expect diversions around Leith Street.

They said: “Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve Leith street and are instead diverted via Montrose Terrace and Waterloo Place citybound only until further notice.”
