With Essex set to see more snow in the upcoming days, drivers are looking for a quick and easy way to de-ice their car without getting up early to heat it! One viral hack has been tried and tested – and can be very efficient if done correctly.
A cold snap is on the way for much of the UK, with widespread warnings for snow and ice in place in Essex over the coming days. This could pose a risk for drivers, especially when it comes to ice on the windscreen, which must always be completely cleared before you set off.
Having good visibility is essential for keeping yourself and other road users safe, but it’s no surprise that clearing ice can be a real chore and a time-consuming one at that. There’s one trick that has been going viral in recent years ,which promises to banish any windscreen ice quickly, allowing you to set off in good time and avoid being late.

The hack involves filling a plastic bag with warm water to clear a windscreen of any ice that may have settled overnight. By brushing a freezer bag filled with warm water over windows, windscreens and wing mirrors, you pretty much immediately melt the ice on any glass surfaces, so you can set off earlier!
The genius here is in its simplicity. We all have access to warm water, and we all have an old ziplock bag or freezer bag lying around somewhere. Online, people have said that the hack leads to there being no condensation on the car, and is much quicker than scraping away with a de-icing tool. If you are in a pinch, this hack is definitely worth a go!
However, drivers should be really careful when doing this, as one easy mistake could end up causing a lot of damage. If you add boiling water to the bag, just like pouring boiling water directly onto a windscreen, the rapid change in extreme temperatures could cause the glass to crack – which could turn the hack into a very expensive error and comes with a high risk of burning yourself as well.
