Three fish and chip shops in Essex have been named among the UK’s best in the prestigious Fry Awards. Chippies up and down the country have gone head to head in the nationwide competition.
A classic fish and chips is one of the UK’s most popular dishes, and the winners were named after months of expert judging. Takeaways, restaurants, and mobile units have gone under close inspection with mystery diners, who assess food quality, premises cleanliness, staff expertise, value for money, ease of ordering, and social media presence.
Only the operators with the highest scores earn an award and there are three in Essex to receive the top gong. The pass mark this year for both the takeaway and restaurant categories was 96% and above, although several were successful in gaining the full 100%.
