There are a whole list of jobs which you just don’t see in the world we live in today, but there was a time when they were everyday careers.
The role of petrol pump attendant has just vanished over the years. Once upon a time you would pull into a petrol station and a worker would ask you what petrol you wanted and unscrew the petrol cap and they would deliver the petrol without a spill. This was all without having to clean your shoes of spilt petrol for the rest of the day with the car stinking of fuel. A free wine glass with every fill up and you were on your way.
Clinking sounds of the milkman delivering the daily pint at 4am in the morning is something else which has faded away. Four pint plastic cartons from the supermarket is today’s choice of milk, however some milk rounds have had a resurgence in modern times with an eco aware society and recycling, some milk rounds are increasing. However without the electric milk float trundling along at 4mph, again an eco aware transport years ahead of its time.
There was also policemen who would direct traffic, draymen who would deliver beer barrels by horse and cart.
Many of these jobs are now confined to those lovely Ladybird books we loved as kids rather than something our children will dream of doing when they grow up.
We take a look at just a few of the many job roles which have disappeared over the decades.
