A number of people in Surrey have been named in the New Year Honours list. These inspirational leaders, campaigners and educators have been recognised for their service for others.
A total of 38 people from Surrey have landed themselves a spot on the prestigious list that is put together to award those who have made an outstanding contribution to national life.
The residents have been commended for a variety of reasons and include Seema Misra a sub- post-mistress who was wrongly jailed while she was pregnant. She continues to campaign on behalf of the sub-postmasters and is receiving her honour for services to justice.
Farnham resident Caroline Redman Lusher, Creator of Rock Choir is also being given an MBE for her outstanding achievement in music and significant contribution to charity. She said: “I’m overwhelmed with the news and thrilled to be given this prestigious honour. I feel fortunate every day, not only to be able to work with the greatest pop and rock songs of our time, but to share them with the British public and in turn, improve lives.
“I wouldn’t have achieved any of the success and longevity without my dedicated, loyal and talented team who believe in me, believe in the magic of Rock Choir and help me to look after the tens of thousands of the British public, the wonderful Rockies, who take part in Rock Choir each week.
“Communities, organisations and charities all benefit from Rock Choir too; there’s a tick in every box as well as natural happiness and joy at every turn. As you can probably tell, there’s a lot of love in Rock Choir and I’m thrilled to celebrate this exciting news with my family, team and the Rockies.”
