A Glaswegian who appeared on ITV’s hit quiz show The Chase managed to earn an impressive sum of money in his cash builder before falling at the final hurdle.
John was the first to take on Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan on Thursday night, January 9, and got off to the perfect start earning £6,000 in the cash builder which he returned to the table with.
However, two members of John’s team did not make it back and were caught by the chaser, leaving just himself and Tracy in the final chase with a head start of two points.
John, originally from Dumbarton, and Tracy, managed to answer 15 questions correctly in the final chase and tabled a total score of 17 with their head start of two.
Unfortunately for them, Jenny was on top form and made light work of some difficult questions.
The pair were left kicking themselves, though, after being given the chance to push back the chaser. The team were asked “what liquid is traditionally heated in a Russian samovar,” with the answer being water.

Neither Jenny or the team answered correctly as they went on to rue the missed chance, reports EdinburghLive.
The Vixen then went on a run to answer all the remaining questions correctly and catch John and Tracy with just seven seconds remaining on the clock in an agonising loss for £4,500 each.
Naturally, both referenced the Russian samovar question and lived to regret overthinking the question in what could have made all the difference to their chances of being victorious.
The Chase continues on ITV and STV at 5pm on Friday.
