The pub group behind The Botanist bars has closed another one of its site. New World Trading Company has announced the closure of The Botanist, Media City at Salford Quays, from today.
Owners New World Trading Company (NWTC) have issued a statement claiming that the closure is the result of a landlord decision to seek new tenants as part of the Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA) process. Last week, the group also closed three other sites amid an ongoing company restructure.
The pub group is known for its plant-themed interiors, botanical cocktails and a food menu that includes its much-loved hanging kebabs. Bosses have said that it will continue to operate 27 other sites across the UK, including The Oast House in Spinningfields, which is part of the restaurant and bar group.

A spokesperson for NWTC said: “We are hugely disappointed with this outcome. Despite our desire to retain the site, the landlord has decided to bring in new tenants at the site of The Botanist, Media City. We are truly grateful to our loyal guests and team in Manchester and the community that has supported us over the years.”
Their closure comes as part of a Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA) approved in October by its creditors to clear debts over a set period.

Last week, The Botanist bars in Sheffield and Coventry were closed with immediate effect by NWTC, while North Light restaurant in Chester city centre, which had only opened in 2023, was also shuttered. In October it also closed three bars, including the original Botanist in Alderley Edge.
Today, owners have also provided customers with an update on when the site will officially close and what it means for the rest of it’s UK sites. The final date of trading for The Botanist Media City is today, Wednesday, 15 January.
It confirmed that NWTC will continue to operate 27 sites across the UK including The Florist in Watford, Trading House in London, The Oast House in Manchester City Centre, and nationwide locations for The Botanist.

There are also still plans to convert The Furnace in Sheffield to The Botanist in February 2025, and a new Botanist will open in Bournemouth in May 2025.
The Botanist’s huge bar and restaurant site on Deansgate was quietly shuttered last summer. Meanwhile Alderley Edge and Knutsford’s The Botanist bars both closed down in October to the shock of diners, and its site in Didsbury closed in February 2023.
Alderley Edge was the location for the first The Botanist when it was launched by Living Ventures as a new concept back in 2012. Knutsford followed in 2016. Since then, the group has grown with sites across the country, and is now under the umbrella of New World Trading Company.
