The best pub in Somerset has been crowned and it’s next to a ‘handsome’ historic structure

What is the best pub in Somerset? It’s home to so many places to share a drink with friends or make memories watching the local game, so it can be tricky to find the best of the best.

Defining what is the best pub in the county comes down to a number of factors. How affordable is it? What is the drinks menu like? Does it provide a unique atmosphere or great quality food?

One travel expert has taken the bold step to identify the best pub in each county in England. Writing for the Telegraph, Will Hawkes has compiled the blockbuster list with the best pub in Somerset being located in Bath.

The Old Green Tree, named after the 18th century structure close to the city centre, was named as the best pub in Somerset. It earned praise from the travel writer for being a “down-to-earth” establishment.

Will Hawkes said: “The best drinking space in Bath can be found at the back of the Old Green Tree, a handsome 18th-century structure close to the centre of the city. Here you’ll find the cheerful wood-panelled, herringbone-floored smoke room, with bench seating on both sides, and much more besides. In a well-to-do city, this is a down-to-earth pub.”

The pub has a 4.5 star rating out of five on TripAdvisor as pub-goers also rave about the historic pub, set in a 300-year-old building.
