Thank you to all our readers

The Manchester Evening News stands loud and proud at the very heart of Greater Manchester’s communities. We champion their people and places, celebrating the best of our region – as we have done for more than 150 years.

We are for our readers – and we want to thank them for what they have helped us to achieve during 2024.

We want to say thanks to you for trusting us to tell your stories and report the messages and opinions you wanted us to convey on your behalf. For speaking to us at times good and bad to help us compile a record of Greater Manchester and its happenings for the ages.

From sports to politics, nightlife to health, our trusted and campaigning journalism has affected positive change at local and national level, and won awards.

Together, we have raised more than £250,000 to save one of Greater Manchester’s oldest institutions – a lifeline for young people and deprived communities, Salford Lads and Girls Club.

We have used our website to change lives. Two of our campaigns were mentioned in this year’s King’s Speech – Awaab’s Law and Martyn’s Law.

For the third year in a row, we chose Humans MCR as our Christmas campaign partner, with a brilliant £28,597 raised by M.E.N. readers providing Christmas dinner for thousands of people living in poverty.

North Manchester General Hospital has a faced five years of empty promises of money. Now the M.E.N., through a huge campaign, is calling on the Health Secretary, Wes Streeting, to commit to the urgent rebuilding of the Victorian-era facility, where conditions on the ground have been likened to a ’19th Century workhouse’.

We will continue to hold Government to account and ensure promises are made good. The M.E.N. is campaigning for a change in the law to protect victims of domestic abuse.

Salford Lads Club

When rioting came to Greater Manchester, the M.E.N. played a vital part in reporting not just what was happening, but in tackling disinformation and quashing false rumours.

And after the General Election was called, we visited every one of our 27 constituencies to ask people what they wanted from Government and what issues politicians should campaign on. Thank you to everyone who stopped to chat.

Your voices have helped to shape the running of our country.

So as 2024 draws to a close, we make a vow never to stop shouting up and shouting out for our brilliant city and its people.
