Temperature in Leicester to feel as low as -7C says Met Office amid health and snow warnings

After a wet and windy Near Year, the first few days of 2025 are going to be very, very cold. The Met Office predicts highs of just 3C in Leicester today (Thursday), tomorrow and Saturday, and with the wind, it will feel much colder in the days leading up to the forecast weekend snow.

For example, by noon today it will be about 2C in Leicester but will feel like -1C, thanks to the 17mph wind blowing from the north. And the overnight temperature tonight will feel like -7C.

In terms of rain, there should not be much, if any, between now and Saturday evening. And when it arrives, at about 6pm on Saturday, it will most likely be in the form of sleet.

Temperatures on Saturday will not get above 2C in Leicester. But by Sunday, with the wind moving round towards the south, the temperatures will pick up a bit to about 8C.

While the Met Office forecast for Sunday suggests a high chance of light rain or sleet, the county will still be subject to the yellow warning for snow, which continues until 9am on Monday.

The snow warning for the weekend covers pretty much the whole of England and Wales, as well as southern Scotland. The warning states: “There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, might be affected.

“There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off. There is a chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel.”

After the weekend, it’s likely to get cooler again, with a dull, wet, cold and windy day on Monday with highs of 5C followed by a slightly colder but bright and dry Tuesday.

The BBC weather forecast, which predicts further into the future, reckons Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will all be cold but sunny, with more wintry showers arriving on Friday, January 10.
