Teen in custody after girl suffers ‘life-changing’ injuries in quad bike crash

A seven-year-old girl has been left with serious injuries after the quad bike she was travelling on as a passenger crashed into a telegraph pole outside a Leeds pub.

Police were called to the scene of the crash outside the Old Tree Inn pub in High Street, Kippax, at around 10.31pm on Boxing Day (Thursday, December 26) after a green Honda TRX420 quad bike had been in a collision with the pole. The road is still shut while police investigate and you can find updates here.

The vehicle had been travelling away from Leeds Road at the time. West Yorkshire Police said the girl was taken to hospital and is continuing to receive treatment for injuries that are described as “serious” and “life-changing”. They are not considered to be life-threatening, police say.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving in relation to the incident. A man and a woman, both aged in their thirties, have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and remain in custody. Scenes remain in place on High Street and nearby Church Lane as part of the investigation.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the green quad bike being ridden around the Kippax area at any point from 10pm until the time of the collision, particularly anyone with relevant CCTV or dashcam footage.”
