Suspected burglar stole bags of gifts from County Durham home on Christmas Day

A suspected burglar stole bags of presents from a County Durham home on Christmas Day.

During the incident, the man also allegedly injured the householder as he made his escape, leaving them with a puncture wound to their leg, which was caused caused by an unknown implement, Durham Constabulary said. The suspected aggravated burglary took place at around 6am at an address on Grange Close, in Peterlee.

In a statement on social media, Peterlee Police said: “Can you help our officers who are investigating an aggravated burglary which happened on Christmas Day?

“Officers were called to an address in Grange Close, Peterlee, at around 6am after a woman reported she had disturbed an intruder in her living room, who ran from the house carrying two bin bags containing presents.

“As the suspect fled through the kitchen of the property, the householder suffered a small puncture wound to the leg, caused by an unknown implement.

“The intruder is described as being aged around 21, around 5ft 7inches tall, and of skinny build, wearing a grey top, black joggers and trainers.”

Anyone with information is asked to ring Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident 53 of December 25.
