Supporters left gobsmacked by scale of flooding at Gwynedd football ground

A video has shown how floodwater has swamped a pitch at a popular North Wales football club. Persistent rain on New Year’s Eve and early on New Year’s Day left low-lying parts of the region underwater.

In Gwynedd the ground at CPD Porthmadog FC was left submerged. Locals took to social media to express their astonishment at how deep the water was.

The clip was posted on the club’s Facebook page. It shows someone sloshing through several inches of water which flooded the pitch and surrounded picnic tables on adjoining land. One observer posted: “B***** hell, is the game off on Saturday?”

Another simply typed: “Wow.” CPD are due to play a home match against Llangefni Town FC this Saturday at 2.30pm. Gerallt Owen, CPD Porthmadog’s general manager, told North Wales Live it was “touch and go” if that game will go ahead.

He said this afternoon: “It doesn’t look like it’s going ahead at the moment. It’s touch and go. If it doesn’t rain again it might be played. We would ask spectators to keep looking on our social media pages for any updates.”
