A popular coffee shop on Grimsby Docks has closed its doors for the last time.
Coffee on the Docks on Auckland Road was bought by Steve and Caroline Ridlington of WE1 Heritage back in 2022, with a view to bring a long-empty and derelict building back to life.
In February last year, they took over the running of the café and restored it back to its former glory, incorporating original elements of the building with modern and stylish touches.
But on Sunday, an announcement was made on Coffee on the Docks’ Facebook page to state it would be closing. The full post reads: “It is with deep regret that we announce the closure of Coffee on the Docks.
“We have had the best time with all our lovely customers and this has been a very hard decision for us but we feel the time is right for us to call it a day. We wish all of you the very best for the future and thank you for your wonderful support. Caroline and Steve x.”
Customers responded with sadness to the news, with one writing: “This is such sad news. Sorry to hear you have made this decision. Thank you for the custom while you was open and I really enjoyed the food & drink when I popped in. All the best for the future.”

“That’s a big shock, having worked so hard as a business. Good luck for the future,” said another.
Speaking to Grimsby Live, Steve and Caroline thanked customers for all their support, and revealed plans for the future of the building.
They said: “It’s a busy little place with a great community and it’s been supported so much by ABP, but we’re looking at slowing down a little bit. We want to thank everyone for their support.
“Someone else has expressed interest to move in there and we’re in the process of handing it over. It’s not going to be a coffee shop anymore, it’s going to be an art space.”
