Cranleigh Leisure Centre has completed the refurbishment of its ‘state-of-the-art’ gym despite a looming prospect the centre could be demolished. The improvements made to Cranleigh Leisure Centre’s gym facilities consist of; upgraded fitness equipment, a new relaxation area, installation of contemporary room décor and a new floor layout.
Despite the update to facilities, planning applications were submitted to Waverley Borough Council in October 2024 for the demolition of the leisure centre as part of plans for the construction of a new leisure centre in Cranleigh.
Although the prospect of demolition looms over Cranleigh Leisure Centre, according to Everyone Active, who runs the centre, the recent gym refurbishments have provided “significant changes to offer an enhanced experience for its members”.
The aspect of these improvements that will arguably be most significant to gym-goers in Cranleigh is the upgraded fitness equipment. Everyone Active has announced that these new facilities have been provided to account for the “growing demand within the local community for strength training.”

With this in mind, the improved gym facilities will see 61 per cent of the gym area dedicated to strength training and 39 per cent of the facilities allocated to cardio equipment.
For those who focus on strength training in their gym sessions, the upgraded equipment which is now available will include additional free weights, cable stations and a plate loaded resistance kits. The cardiovascular section will also be accompanied by new equipment such as Watt Bikes.
Both sections of the gym facility will still feature much of the equipment that was available prior to the gym’s refurbishments.
Steve Little, Contract Manager at Cranleigh Leisure Centre said: “Cranleigh Leisure Centre is an integral part of our community and we’re excited to announce the completion of the gym re-fresh.”
Despite work still being done to improve the facilities at Cranleigh Leisure Centre, plans to build an entirely new leisure centre in Cranleigh are continuing to make significant progress.
Cranleigh Leisure Centre has received newly refurbished gym facilities despite plans for a multimillion pound redevelopment.
As recently as October 2024, planning applications were submitted to Waverley Borough Council for the construction of a low-carbon leisure centre on Village Way road. The construction project that is set to have a budget of over £30 million, and is due to be completed in 2027.
These plans submitted to Waverley Borough Council are said to include the demolition of the existing Cranleigh Leisure centre, despite improvements still being made to the facilities in the leisure centre.
A spokesperson at Everyone Active told Surrey Live that the recent improvements made to Cranleigh Leisure Centre’s gym facilities were conducted as part of the contract Everyone Active has with Waverley Borough Council. This involved refurbishing the gym facilities at leisure centres in Waverley that are managed by Everyone Active, such as in Haslemere, Farnham and Godalming.
This suggests that the improvements made to Cranleigh Leisure Centre’s gym facilities were conducted by Everyone Active as a separate operation to the current plans submitted to Waverley Borough Council to demolish said Cranleigh Leisure Centre and build a new leisure centre.
