A Spanish woman who swapped the sunny country for Ireland revealed the things she’s learned.
Claudia Sebastian hopes to save enough money to eventually return home and live comfortably, which she recently managed to do. But before she managed to do that, she had to adjust to new living conditions and customs.
The drastic change in weather was, of course, one large hurdle after making the move. Swapping constant blue skies for more erratic weather patterns, Claudia had to rethink her wardrobe.
She explained: “It is said that in one day you live four seasons, which is why you need to use layers. You might get up with a beautiful sunshine and ten minutes later it will be raining madly. So you always have to wear a coat and bring an umbrella.”
The cafe scene in Dublin also caught Claudia’s eye. She noted: “You will never be more than five minutes away from a coffee shop. You have all sorts and types around here.” She mentioned: “If you love the coffee and cake plan for snacking, you are sorted, but coffee will cost you at least 3.50 Euros.”
Another eye-opener for her was the state of traffic in the city. She added: “If you don’t have much time, you will arrive late. The city is not made to cope with so much traffic and it collapses. If you want to get somewhere, leave your home at least one hour before your appointment.”
Claudia mentioned one of the key adjustments she had to make involved public transport, which she reckons stood in the way of punctuality. She noted: “You have to know that the bus is always late if it ever arrives. Also be careful because buses don’t stop everywhere.”
And some things we take for granted were new to her. She advised: “If you are inside the bus, it’s easy to let the driver know you want to get off with the red button, but if you are waiting for the bus, make a sign with your hand so it stops.”
When it comes to getting along with Dublin locals, Claudia figured out the social etiquette was mainly to avoid a particular topic. She stated: “Irish people are very friendly and pleasant. But never mention the English or the British to them because they will hate you.”
Claudia’s insights seem to have resonated with viewers, as numerous followers dropped into share their upbeat remarks, with several expressing their eagerness to explore Dublin for themselves sometime soon.
