South West drivers face 18 mile diversion as road closes for a week

Drivers are bracing for a significant diversion starting next week due to roadworks near Launceston. A detour of approximately 18 miles will be implemented for a road closure that spans roughly half a mile.

It comes as South West Water plans to carry out work to install a new water supply along the B3254 between Tiny Meadows And Hendra Lane, at South Petherwin, Launceston. The road will be closed 24 hours a day from Monday (January 20) to January 28.

Despite the closure being less than a mile, drivers will have to navigate an 18-mile diversion route, adding over half an hour onto travel times. Therefore, it’s advisable to plan ahead if anyone intends to use this route.

Cornwall Council has confirmed that emergency access will be maintained throughout the closure. Access for pedestrians and vehicles to residents and businesses will also be preserved.

The diversion route will direct drivers back along the B3254 towards Congdon’s Shop before heading towards Kelly Bray. Drivers will then need to follow the A388 towards Treburley and into Launceston, reports Cornwall Live.

Anyone heading to South Petherwin will then be directed towards Pennygillam Industrial Estate to rejoin the B3254.
