More snow is expected to fall across Somerset today amid another wave of icy conditions. According to forecasters, the South West could receive up to 10cm of snow on high ground, possibly isolating rural communities and causing travel disruption on the roads
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, effective from 9am to 11.59pm, cautioning against power outages and hazardous driving conditions that may leave some drivers stranded. Parts of Somerset are included in the warning, including Taunton, Bridgwater, Wells and Yeovil.
“Whilst not all areas may be affected, outbreaks of snow may push in from the southwest during Wednesday, potentially giving some significant accumulations in places,” the Met Office stated. “Two to five cm of snow could accumulate fairly widely, and as much as 10 cm over higher ground, especially over east or northeast-facing slopes.
“Areas near the coast can anticipate rain or sleet. With the weather system moving eastward and clearing skies on Wednesday night, untreated surfaces are likely to become icy.”
