Somerset and Bristol weather and traffic live ahead of icy weather warning

More travel disruption is expected in the South West today as forecasters warn of another icy day on the region’s roads. Rain, sleet, and snowfall on already frozen surfaces are likely to create hazardous ice patches, particularly on untreated roads, and could contribute to further travel difficulties.

In response, the Met Office has issued a fresh weather warning for icy conditions this Friday morning (January 10). The alert, encompassing the almost the entirety of Somerset as well as Bristol, as well as Devon alongside slices of Cornwall, and Dorset, spans from 3 am until 11 am.

The Met Office cautioned: “Outbreaks of rain, sleet and patchy snow spreading northeastwards on Friday morning, falling onto frozen ground, may lead to some icy patches on untreated surfaces for a time. Any accumulating snow will be largely reserved for hills, where a patchy 1-2 cm may accumulate above 150m elevation, and a small chance of 3-5 cm over Dartmoor.”

They also noted: “The extent of any precipitation across the north and east of the warning area, for example across Wales, is more uncertain, and it may remain largely dry here.”
