A fresh weather warning for snow has been issued for parts of Essex this afternoon (January 8). There have been weather warnings across the UK from the Met Office for the past few days, with the latest predicting that snow and sleet will hit parts of Essex overnight.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, stating that “a weather system will push sleet and snow into some southern counties of England, bringing possible disruption”. The warning is in place from 9am this morning until midnight tonight.
The new weather warning predicts that sleet or snow could hit the more southern areas of Essex this evening. Areas affected are predicted to be Brentwood, Billericay, Tilbury, Ingatestone and Chipping Ongar.

The Met Office says: “Outbreaks of sleet and snow are expected through Wednesday afternoon and evening. Many places will probably see relatively little or no snow settling, (especially on tarmac), but there could be 1-2 cm locally.
“Upland areas could see more, perhaps 5-10 cm on Dartmoor and Exmoor and 2 to 5 cm over hills elsewhere. As precipitation clears eastwards and skies clear during Wednesday night, ice is likely to form on untreated surfaces.”
The news comes as an amber cold weather alert was issued by UKHSA ahead of freezing temperatures arriving across Essex. The alert, which covers all of England, came into force on Monday (January 6), and people are encouraged to look out for vulnerable people.
