Sheep injured in suspected dog attack needed treatment ‘to keep them alive’

Two sheep received serious injuries and needed treatment “to keep them both alive” after another suspected dog attack. Police have appealed for information following the latest incident, just before Christmas.

A North Wales Police Rural Crime Team statement said: “Between 20th and 24th December 2024, two ewe lambs were attacked on fields in Pentre Celyn near Ruthin.

“Both animals suffered significant injuries and have had to receive treatment to keep them both alive. The injuries sustained by one of the lambs are shown in the attached image. We are again reminding dog owners to keep dogs on a lead whilst in areas where livestock are present.

Also, for those who reside in areas where livestock may be nearby to check the security of their property boundaries to ensure that dogs are not able to escape through fencing, hedges, and gates.

PC Chris James said: “These types of incidents can have a devastating effect on farmers and it is the responsibility of everyone to prevent these type of attacks from happening, which unfortunately is all too often at present”.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident can either contact the rural crime team via 101 or the online reporting system, or via Crimestoppers quoting reference Q184827.
