Seven fire engines scrambled to Cheshire industrial estate blaze

Seven fire engines were scrambled to a blaze on an industrial estate. And the incident on Warrington’s Burtonwood Industrial Estate saw crews from three separate services drafted in.

Now community leaders have paid tribute to the emergency services following the weekend fire. Today, an investigation into the cause of the industrial unit fire is expected to continue.

The alarm had been raised just before 9.20pm on Saturday night (December 28) with firefighters remaining at the scene last night. Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from Lymm, Macclesfield, Nantwich, Birchwood and Penketh to the incident.

Further engines from Merseyside and Greater Manchester fire and rescue services were also called in. A spokesperson for the Cheshire service said: “Fire crews from three fire and rescue services worked together to tackle a well-developed fire on industrial premises.

“Teams of firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to dampen the flames from different sectors of the building. The aerial ladder platform was used to spray water from above.”

As of 9.30pm last night (December 29), crews remained on site to ensure ‘there was no reignition of the fire’. Officials from Warrington Borough Council have also undertaken a ‘precautionary walk’ in the area off Phipps Lane.

Councillors Kevin Burgess and Stuart Mann have thanked firefighters for their efforts. Councillor Burgess said: “Two officers from Warrington Borough Council undertook a precautionary walk over of the area this morning (December 29) as part of standard arrangements. This also involved speaking to some residents closest to the site. No significant debris from the fire was found but general advice was given if any ash was found.

“The owner will be working with an appropriate contactor to manage the clean-up of the industrial site after the fire. Both myself and Cllr Mann would like to thank Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service for the incredible and brave work they did putting this fire out. We would also like to thank our colleagues at Warrington Borough Council for their support in working with me and Stuart to get as much information as possible out to the Burtonwood community in the fastest time possible considering work is still ongoing at the site.”
