A serial shoplifter has been banned from Sainsbury’s by a criminal behaviour order (CBO).
Redcar and East Cleveland neighbourhood policing team officers have secured the order for Keiron Smith. The 23-year-old has been arrested numerous times for retail thefts around Redcar and Cleveland.
The order against Smith was granted by magistrates and will remain in place until July 2026. It prohibits him from the following:
- Acting in a manner that causes, or is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to any person by whatever means.
- Remaining in any retail store within the Borough of Redcar and Cleveland when asked to leave by a member of staff.
- Entering any Sainsbury’s store in Saltburn and Marske.
- Entering any retail store wearing anything which covers or could be used to cover the face or part of the face including headwear.
If Smith is found to have breached any of these conditions he faces jail. Neighbourhoods Inspector Neil Deluce said: “Smith’s behaviour, activity and offending has been an ongoing issue for retail staff as well as for shoppers who were simply going about their daily business.
“I hope he will now learn the consequences of his actions and that he’ll comply with the CBO or there’s a genuine possibility he could be fined or even jailed. We will continue to work with businesses, retailers and our partner agencies to minimise crime and ASB wherever possible and CBOs are a useful tool in tackling such behaviour.”
