See inside the ‘historic’ home within old castle walls that is up for sale

A home “steeped in history” with the walls of an old castle is up for sale. The Leicester city centre property, within the walls of the old Leicester Castle, sits opposite the St Mary de Castro Church.

The Grade II listed property, built in 1850, has been “extensively, and sympathetically renovated both inside and out”, agent Sheldon Bosley Knight said. It has four double bedrooms, a large kitchen/diner, sitting room, a cellar, large walled garden and outbuildings.

When the current owner bought it in 2022, it had been converted to offices. Sheldon Bosley Knight said he had spent the past two years bringing it back to a “wonderful family home”.

Leicester sales valuer Tom Yorston-Lyons said: “This wonderful property is steeped in history and represents a truly amazing opportunity to be its custodian. The current owner has done a fantastic job making it fit for a King or Queen and something which befits its location.

“Leicester itself is full of history – it’s the resting place of Richard III, it was a key battleground in the English Civil War and the castle has been central to this. It was a place which housed Parliament in the 13th and 14th centuries, it housed prisoners in the Napoleonic War and its prisoner carvings can be seen etched into its stone and oak which makes up the building. From 1900 onwards it was used as Leicester’s court house.”

The property has an asking price of £900,000. More information can be found online.
