Second beautiful seal stops for rest on North Yorkshire beach

Seals have become a charming spectacle in a North Yorkshire coastal town, popping up in public spots to the delight of spectators.

The first sea creature, dubbed Bernie, made an appearance last week when he stopped to take a breather on a lifeboat ramp in Scarborough. And this week an adult female Grey seal has turned up on the sands for some downtime.

Teams from British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) and Active Security Solutions have implemented a significant cordon to keep crowds at bay. And the experts believe this seal appears younger and healthier, matching the expected weight for the winter season.

Via social media, BDMLR advised: “Seals will rest out of water, called hauling out, for long periods of time to sleep, relax, and digest food. They don’t need to be in water, and can pack a serious bite if disturbed. It is vital seals aren’t approached by children, dogs, drones, or curious people wanting to get selfies as the stress inflicted can have long-lasting consequences on that mammal.

“Medics have spoken with large numbers of public who have stopped by to see the seal, and many have asked fantastic questions. So far, not one loose dog has bothered her and she has been able to rest.”

Lee Peace from Active Security Solutions added: “On behalf of Active Security Solutions we would like to genuinely say it has been an absolute pleasure to assist you guys in the safe return of which we have now named her (Grace of the sea),” reports Yorkshire Live.

“My hat goes off to you and your team and your swift response to our call for help. Myself and DD never in a million years thought we would be so close to such a beautiful creature and this is one of those stories that would definitely go down in history for us. Once again, I’d like to thank you and your team.”
