Scottish The Chase contestant branded ‘unlucky’ as she takes leap for £25,000

A Scottish contestant on The Chase was branded “unlucky” as she attempted to win £25,000 on the ITV quiz show.

Diane, from Glasgow, was second to take on Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis on Friday night, January 11, after getting off to a questionable start.

Winning only £1,000 in the cash builder after answering one question correctly, Diane returned to the table and decided to take a leap to go for the higher offer of £25,000.

She got off to a positive start but was soon defeated after The Menace caught up with her and knocked her out of the game.

When she was asked “The ‘X-men’ officially became part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in what year?” she opted for 2016 but unfortunately guessed incorrectly. The Menace picked the correct answer of 2024.

Bradley and the other contestants were taken back by the difficulty of the questions. He said: “Shame that. I thought they were tough. I think they’ve been really hard, really, really tricky.”

The Menace added: “The questions come out randomly and the questions get harder which suits the chasers rather than the contestants because we are more likely to know a bit of a trickier question.

“If Diane had got a couple of easier top in questions there it would have made all the difference. She was very unlucky.”

On Friday, we reported another Scottish contestant came agonisingly close to coming away with a rare victory after an impressive performance.

John, originally from Dumbarton, and Tracy, managed to answer 15 questions correctly in the final chase and tabled a total score of 17 with their head start of two.

However, Jenny was on top form and made light work of some difficult questions. The pair were left kicking themselves, though, after being given the chance to push back the chaser.

The team were asked “what liquid is traditionally heated in a Russian samovar,” with the answer being water. Unfortunately, neither Jenny or the team answered correctly as they went on to rue the missed chance.

The Vixen then went on a run to answer all the remaining questions correctly and catch John and Tracy with just seven seconds remaining on the clock in an agonising loss for £4,500 each.
