Brutal child killer Urfan Sharif was subjected to a horrific attack in prison in which his throat was slashed with a tuna tin lid.
The beast – jailed for murdering daughter Sara – was slashed at HMP Belmarsh in South London by two inmates on New Year’s Day. Sources reported by The Sun say the monster was lucky to survive the alleged attack and he remains in a bad condition.
A source told the newspaper he was “sliced up badly in his cell by two others who rushed in.” They said the attack was “planned” and the two inmates, disgusted by Sharif’s abuse of his daughter, “used a makeshift weapon” made from a tuna tin lid.
Before her death, Sara had suffered more than 25 broken bones, from being hit repeatedly with a cricket bat, metal pole and mobile phone(Image: PA)
The source said: “He was sliced in the neck and face, and is still in healthcare and in a very bad way. He was lucky to survive, has had to have stitches and will have scars as a permanent reminder of the attack. The guards tried to keep him safe because he obviously had a target on his back after the case was such big news.
“Something like this was always on the cards, and an attack was probably only a matter of time.”
Sara was murdered at her home in Woking, Surrey, in August last year, with her father, Urfan Sharif, and stepmother, Beinash Batool, convicted of her murder earlier in December. Her uncle, Faisal Malik, was convicted of causing or allowing her death.
Little Sara was just 10 when she died
Urfan Sharif and Batool were jailed for life for her murder, with minimum terms of 40 years and 33 years, with Malik, 29, jailed for 16 years. Ahead of their sentencing, a victim impact statement from Sara’s mother, Olga Sharif, who was watching the hearing via an online link, was read to the court. She called them “executioners” and “sadists”.
Mrs Sharif paid tribute to her daughter’s “unique character” and said she was an “angel” who “left us too soon” when she died, aged just 10. Addressing the defendants in the dock in a statement read by prosecutor Bill Emlyn Jones KC, Mrs Sharif said: “You are sadists, although even this word is not enough for you. I would say you are executioners.”
Before her death, Sara had suffered more than 25 broken bones, from being hit repeatedly with a cricket bat, metal pole and mobile phone. She had a broken hyoid bone in her neck from being throttled, iron burns on her buttocks, boiling water burns on her feet, and human bite marks on her arm and thigh.
There was also evidence she had been bound with packaging tape and hooded during the assaults, which would have left her in excruciating pain, the trial heard. The schoolgirl’s body was found on a bunk bed in her home in Woking, Surrey, on August 10 last year.
The source also said Urfan Sharif has tried to keep out of the way during his time in jail, but word about who he is quickly spread around the jail. Police are now investigating the incident at Belmarsh, which is home to notorious killers like Danyal Hussein and Stephen Port.
