A Galway man has hit out at Ryanair after he claimed the airline charged him over €60 for a carry-on bag on which the straps reached slightly above the edge of Ryanair’s bag measuring container
Sports therapist John Butler was getting a flight with the budget airline from Dublin Airport to Lanzarote on New Year’s Eve when a backpack his family were travelling with was singled out.
John shared photos and videos online of the bag, showing the straps slightly above the edge of Ryanair’s bag measuring container. He raged that the return trip would leave him a total of €120 out of pocket.
“€120 extra for this, Ryanair?”
“Absolute Disgusting Behaviour,” John wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
“The handles are above the permitted level. So that will cost you €60 extra to Board! & ‘Gate will close if you take anymore pictures’,” he added.
Ryanair did not respond to Galway Beo’s request for comment.
