Supports holding up the bank of the River Hull appeared to be in a state of collapse today.
Hull City Council confirmed it and the Environment Agency and affected landowners are aware of the situation. Photographs taken by concerned residents show the supports for the bank leaning towards the river and some of the earth falling over the top.
The section of river is alongside Wincolmlee, near Wilmington Bridge. At this time, it is not clear how long it will take for the bank to be repaired but the Council said it will be “as soon as possible”.
A Council spokesperson said: “The council is aware that a section of sheet piling along the River Hull, near to Foster Street, has slipped. The council is closely monitoring the situation alongside partners, including the Environment Agency and local landowners.
“Remedial work to repair the affected area will be undertaken as soon as possible. River traffic has been temporarily suspended until the matter is resolved.”
An Environment Agency spokesperson said: “We’re aware of the collapse of a third party sheet pile retaining wall on the River Hull, in Hull. We have assessed the potential increase in flood risk as very low but we will continue to monitor the situation.
“We have been on site and will work with the landowner to ensure it is fixed as soon as possible.”
