Drugs, weapons and counterfeit goods worth a combined total of €523,000 have been seized following a number of searches carried out by Revenue.
The goods were seized following searches in Dublin, the Midlands and Rosslare. Six weapons were also discovered in packages originating from the Czech Republic while 32 litres of alcohol, with a value of almost €555 and a small amount of tobacco were seized after officers stopped and searched passengers passing through Rosslare Europort.
The cannabis and illicit drugs were detected, with the assistance of detector dogs Ciara and Enzo, while Revenue officers searched parcels at premises in Dublin and the Midlands. The illegal drugs were discovered in parcels that originated in the United Kingdom, Thailand, Czech Republic, USA and Canada.
The illicit drugs consisted of 89g of cannabis edibles, 1.25 kg of psychoactive substances and 548 Benzodiazepine, Diazepam, Tapentadol, Zolpidem and Zopiclone tablets.
The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights. The goods seized included items branded Adidas, Alexander McQueen, Asics, Birkenstock and Burberry.
A Revenue spokeswoman said investigations into the seizures are ongoing. She added: “These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity.
