Residents issued stark warning as Coventry A&E ‘extremely’ busy

Residents have been told to only go to A&E in Coventry for illnesses considered ‘life-threatening.’ University Hospital Coventry issued the warning amid six-hour wait times this morning (Saturday, January 11).

Staff at University Hospital Coventry are said to be ‘very busy’ treating people today (January 11). It comes as the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) issued an Amber Cold-Health Alert for the West Midlands.

Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing this weekend. It will remain at around 0C today (January 11), but it could feel as cold as -2C at some points during the day, the Met Office has warned.

Today, University Hospital Coventry said it is prioritising the people ‘most in need.’ Anyone suffering from an illness not believed to be life-threatening has been urged to get advice by calling 111 or going to the GP.

In a statement issued today (January 11), University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust said: “Our A&E is very busy. Please help us to care for the people who need us the most by ensuring you choose the right service for your needs.
