Recalling Hull FC’s last 33 academy debuts including current longest serving player

Hull FC have handed 33 debuts out to academy players over the last decade, with two of those, Jordan Lane and Brad Fash, now the club’s longest-serving players. However, the same fortune doesn’t always apply, with different paths forming for different players. Here, Hull Live looks at those paths and what came next.

Harry Tyson-Wilson: 2014, 1 gameThe half-back debuted at Huddersfield in his one and only appearance for Hull. He was released in 2017 and has since played for York, Sheffield, Doncaster, and Hunslet.

Aidan Burrell: 2021, 1 gameThe prop debuted against Huddersfield, coming off the bench in the final two minutes. That was his one and only first-team appearance for the club, with the player since going down a different career path.

Marcus Walker: 2021, 1 gameThe centre debuted at Catalans and went on to play for Whitehaven, Newcastle, and Dewsbury upon his release for the club.

*Will Kirby: 2024, 1 gameThe forward debuted at Salford last July and is part of the club’s Elite Talent Group for 2025.

*Ryan Westerman: 2024, 1 gameThe centre debuted against Catalans in the final game of 2024 and has been rewarded with a first-team place for 2025 and beyond.

*Callum Kemp: 2024, 1 gameThe half-back also debuted against Catalans and was rewarded with a new first-team deal.

Bobby Tyson-Wilson: 2015, 2 gamesThe prop debuted for Hull in the Challenge Cup against Sheffield and went on to play a further game for the Black and Whites in Super League. He’s also played for York, Doncaster, and Sheffield.

Charlie Severs: 2022, 3 gamesThe back rower debuted at the Magic Weekend against Hull KR and is now taking some time out after serious shoulder injuries.

Jacob Hookem: 2021, 5 gamesThe half-back debuted at Wakefield before leaving the club at the end of 2022. He now plays at Dewsbury following spells at Castleford, Midlands, Bradford, and Whitehaven.

*Nick Staveley: 2023, 8 gamesThe young back rower debuted at Castleford in the Challenge Cup before going on to start the 2024 season in the back row. He will look to come back strong from a ruptured ACL this year.

Callum Lancaster: 2014, 9 gamesThe speedy winger debuted at Headingley and went on to score back-to-back hat-tricks against London and Warrington. In total, he scored seven tries for Hull in nine appearances. He was released in 2017.

*Zach Jebson: 2023, 11 gamesThe forward debuted at St Helens at the end of 2023 and followed it up with ten first-team games last season.

Kieran Buchanan: 2019, 13 gamesThe outside back debuted against Catalans nearly five years ago. He left at the end of the 2020 season for Batley and has signed for York for 2025. He has also played internationally for Scotland and lined up against the world’s best, Nathan Cleary, at the 2022 Rugby League World Cup.

*Matty Laidlaw: 2022, 13 gamesThe prop debuted at the Magic Weekend against Hull KR and has since made 13 appearances for the club.

*Logan Moy: 2024, 16 gamesThe full-back burst onto the first team scene last April, debuting against Huddersfield. He went on to play 16 times, scoring three tries and winning the club’s Young Player of the Year award.

*Jack Charles: 2024, 17 gamesThe half-back debuted against London last March and went on to play 17 games in his first senior year, kicking 21 goals.

Jez Litten: 2017, 18 gamesThe lively hooker debuted away at Leigh, before switching to Hull KR in 2019. He has since become an England international.

*Denive Balmforth: 2022, 19 gamesThe hooker made a try-scoring debut against Toulouse back in 2022. He has now made 19 appearances for the club, 15 of which came last season, scoring five tries.

*Harvey Barron: 2022, 19 gamesThe winger made a try-scoring debut away at Toulouse and has since played 19 first-team games, scoring nine tries. He has been handed the number two shirt for 2025.

Jack Downs: 2015, 20 gamesThe back row debuted at St Helens. He was released in 2018 and went on to play for Batley in the Championship.

*Lewis Martin: 2023, 26 gamesThe winger made a try-scoring debut at St Helens in the final game of 2023 and went on to play a further 25 games last season, scoring nine tries.

*Davy Litten: 2022, 27 gamesThe outside back debuted against Wakefield and has gone on to make 27 appearances for the club, scoring four tries.

*Will Gardiner: 2022, 27 gamesThe prop debuted at Salford and now has 27 Hull FC appearances to his name, scoring the one try.

Jansin Turgut: 2015, 30 gamesDebuting against Leeds, the forward played 30 games for Hull, scoring four tries, before leaving the club for Salford in 2018. He has since played for Bradford, having come back from life-threatening injuries to play rugby league again.

Ben McNamara: 2020, 33 gamesThe half-back made a try-scoring debut at Castleford and went on to play 33 times for Hull, scoring two tries and landing 23 goals. He is now at Leigh Leopards, working under Adrian Lam again, having first come across the former PNG star while his dad, Steve McNamara, was at Sydney Roosters.

Connor Wynne: 2019, 36 gamesThe fiery outside back debuted at Salford and went on to make 36 appearances for Hull, scoring 14 tries. He left the club at the end of 2023 and is currently at Featherstone Rovers.

Jack Logan: 2014, 41 gamesThe centre debuted at Wigan and went on to score 16 tries in 41 appearances for the club. He scored a famous hat-trick against Hull KR in 2019, coming back from serious knee injuries to line up in the Black and White. He also played for Doncaster, Toronto, Batley, Leigh, and York, and has since retired from the professional game.

*Jordan Abdull: 2014, 54 gamesThe half-backed kicked two goals on his debut at Wakefield. He has played 54 times for Hull and re-joins the club on a three-year deal for 2025 after stints at Hull KR, London, and Catalans.

Masimbaashe Matongo: 2015, 58 gamesThe prop debuted at Wigan and stayed at Hull until 2021, making 58 appearances for the club. He has since played at York and Bradford and has signed for Sheffield for the 2025 season.

Jack Brown: 2019, 73 gamesThe prop debuted at Catalans in a famous 31-30 victory and went on to play 73 times for the club. He moved to Hull KR last year in a deal that saw Yusuf Aydin sign for Hull FC.

Cameron Scott: 2018, 73 gamesThe centre debuted at the Magic Weekend against Hull KR and went on to play 73 times for the club, scoring 15 tries. He has signed a deal with Wakefield for 2025 and beyond.

*Jordan Lane: 2018, 149 gamesThe back row forward debuted at Headingley seven years ago and has gone on to become a first-team regular. He was the Black and Whites’ Player of the Year in 2024.

*Brad Fash: 2015, 172 gamesThe prop debuted for Hull against Castleford and has gone to make 172 appearances for the club to date as their current longest-serving player.
